Jalen Milroe sets Alabama record for most rushing TDs by QB in a single season

BATON ROUGE, La. – With his 10-yard touchdown run on the road at LSU, Jalen Milroe set the Alabama school record for most rushing scores by a quarterback in a single season.
Milroe entered the must-win matchup with the Tigers with 12 rushing touchdowns through eight games. He opened the game’s scoring with a 39-yard touchdown run on Alabama’s first drive of the game to give the Crimson Tide an early 7-0 lead. His second run, which set the record, was in the second frame, and the 10-yard score made it 21-6 in favor of UA.
Milroe now has 14 rushing touchdowns (so far) in nine games this fall.
Milroe broke a record that was previously held by Jalen Hurts. The now-Philadelphia Eagle had 13 rushing touchdowns as a true freshman in 2016. Hurts rushed for 23 touchdowns in his three seasons at Alabama from 2016-18. Milroe now has 27 rushing scores from 2021-24.
Milroe finished with a career-high 185 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries versus LSU. It marked the second straight year that he rushed for over 150 yards and four touchdowns against the Tigers. Milroe’s efforts, in addition to a strong showing from the defense, allowed UA to leave Death Valley with a 42-13 win and its postseason hopes intact.

After the lopsided victory, Milroe discussed surpassing Hurts for the single-season record.
“Sorry, Jalen,” Milroe said with a chuckle. “But, nah. I’ve just gotta thank Coach Sheridan, thank Coach DeBoer for the opportunity to play quarterback at the University of Alabama. I wanna thank the state of Alabama for allowing me to play quarterback for a great university.
“I think it’s greater than me. I played for the last name on my back, for the script A and the guys that’s in the locker room. I take a lot of pride in being the Alabama quarterback, and each Saturday I take the field, I’m gonna do my best and just try to do what’s best for the football team and our offense.”
