TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama’s offense will get a boost on Saturday at Georgia.

Senior running back Jam Miller will make his 2025 debut in the top-20 matchup against the No. 5 Bulldogs on Saturday, September 27 (6:30 p.m. CT on ABC). Miller has missed the Crimson Tide’s first three games after suffering a collarbone injury in a preseason scrimmage.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer provided a positive update on Miller on Monday.

“I do expect him to go,” DeBoer said. “He practiced yesterday, been building up last week, his volume. So, expect him to play.”

A senior and the most experienced running back on the Crimson Tide’s 2025 team, Miller was the only Alabama back who carried the ball 100 or more times, or 10-plus times per game, and finished second on the team in every rushing category behind quarterback Jalen Milroe. The 2024 season was Miller’s most involved, as he ran for 668 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries. He also caught 16 passes for 155 yards and another touchdown last year.

In Miller’s absence, all five scholarship running backs have seen the field, though freshman AK Dear has primarily seen action late in lopsided wins. Redshirt freshman Kevin Riley has led the team in rushing with 120 yards on 23 carries, but Alabama’s rushing offense could use some help, as it ranks 14th in the SEC and 106th nationally with 123.67 rushing yards per game.

Getting Miller back for Saturday’s battle in Athens could provide a much-needed boost.

“I don’t think there was anything where we were limited when Jam was out,” said Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. “But certainly, just his leadership and physical presence on run game, just being able to lean on him a little bit is super helpful.”

Miller’s return also helps the Tide’s offense in terms of his ability as a pass protector.

“Jam’s a complete back all around,” DeBoer said. “Not just what you see with him carrying the football, but in his pass protection, both responsibility and the ability to get the job done physically, as well. So he’s very important that way. He’s someone that we trust at the highest level.

“And just in fall camp and spring ball, goes back to last year, he’s just been super consistent as a pass protector, not just as a guy who carried the football.”
