Alabama opened spring practice with double-digit players either set to miss all 15 practices or be limited on the practice field. As spring camp progressed, other players sustained injuries of varying levels and were either shut down entirely or just held out as a precaution.

Speaking to reporters at SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida on Tuesday morning, Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer offered a general health update for his 2025 football team.

“There’s too many as a whole that are still coming off of last season, missed some time during during spring ball, but there’ll be a pretty good group that now is in full swing,” DeBoer said, “and just a few guys that have what we refer to as limited or limited contact – I mean, there’s not contact now – but limited and just kind of monitoring their situations as they go through the month of June.

“But by the time we hit August, we feel very confident that we will have everyone back and be ready to roll at the level we need to.”

After spring practice No. 1, DeBoer read off a long list of injured players. Returning starters like Deontae Lawson, Domani Jackson and Keon Sabb missed all of spring camp, as did returning players like Danny Lewis and Bubba Hampton and newcomers like Alex Asparuhov, David Bird and Kevonte Henry. A few Alabama players were also limited to individual drills and sported non-contact jerseys – Justin Jefferson, Kadyn Proctor and James Smith.

Following the Tide’s second scrimmage, DeBoer shared that two tight ends would miss the rest of spring ball – Josh Cuevas and Marshall Pritchett – while star wide receiver Ryan Williams held out of scrimmage No. 2 and the rest of the spring as a precaution. With Lewis, Cuevas and Pritchett all sidelined, Alabama was down to just one scholarship tight end.

Based on the head coach’s comments on Tuesday morning, Alabama should be at full strength when preseason camp begins in early August ahead of DeBoer’s second year at the helm. On multiple occasions, he mentioned his excitement for the upcoming football season, and the Tide players seem to share that same feeling as they get set for summer workouts.

“Guys are pouring everything into it right now,” DeBoer said. “They are almost over the top with the work that they want to put in because of the desire they have to want to be great and have an amazing season. And really, coming off of last year, you know, want to prove some people right and prove some people wrong.”
