Kalen DeBoer gives injury updates on three Alabama players to begin LSU week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Coming out of the bye week last weekend, No. 4 Alabama is set to face LSU at home this coming Saturday night (6:30 p.m. CT, ABC). During his Monday press conference to kick off the week, head coach Kalen DeBoer gave injury updates on three players: offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark, tight end Danny Lewis and linebacker Qua Russaw.
“VanDeMark is making good progress,” DeBoer said. “He’s been practicing this week so expect him to be ready to go.”
VanDeMark appeared on the injury report before the South Carolina game two weeks ago. He warmed up for the game and was listed as a game time decision, but did not play.
“Danny Lewis, we’ll see how things go through this week,” DeBoer said. “The bye week was certainly good, he wasn’t able to play the previous week. I’m hopeful that he’ll be ready to go. Expect him to be on the football field practicing with us more this week than he has in previous weeks.”

Lewis has dealt with various injuries throughout the season, missing the first three games of the year as well as the last two games against Tennessee and South Carolina.
“Qua, I think I mentioned last week, he’s made good progress and that continues to be the case,” DeBoer said. “Probably don’t expect him to be ready to go this weekend, but he’s doing a lot more than he has. It’s very promising with the direction it’s been going.”
Russaw suffered a broken foot against Georgia on Sept. 27 and has missed the last four games recovering. He also received a vote of confidence in his recovery from defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, who said he anticipates Russaw being back “sooner rather than later.”
