Latest injury updates on Jam Miller, Josh Cuevas, LT Overton before CFP
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Four days out from Alabama’s first-round playoff game at Oklahoma, head coach Kalen DeBoer provided the latest on the injured players for the Crimson Tide.
After Monday’s postseason practice, DeBoer shared updates on running back Jam Miller, tight end Josh Cuevas and defensive end LT Overton during his 1 p.m. CT press conference.
“Jam, he’s making good progress,” DeBoer said. “Just kind of continue to see how the week goes along. You guys saw him out there doing some things today.
“Cuevas, very similar to Jam. Making progress out there, doing some work. And really, I guess, you’re optimistic at this point. We’ve still got four days left. So those guys are heading in a good direction, making good progress, and continue to evaluate them moving forward.
“But you saw them out there doing some things today in practice.
“… Just with LT, continue to monitor him. I would say he’s doubtful for this weekend.”
Miller was at Monday’s postseason practice and led the tailbacks through drills. Miller suffered a lower-leg injury at Auburn on November 29, and he missed the SEC Championship Game. The senior is Alabama’s leading rusher with 493 yards and three touchdowns on 123 attempts.

Cuevas was also seen at Monday’s practice, and while he was dressed out, the tight end rode a stationary bike off to the side. Cuevas suffered a foot injury in practice before the Eastern Illinois game and hasn’t played since the first Oklahoma game. The redshirt senior is third on the team in receiving touchdowns (4) and fourth in receptions (30) for Alabama for 341 yards.
Overton was not spotted during the media viewing periods of practice. He missed the SEC title game due to illness. Overton is responsible for 35 tackles, six tackles for loss and four sacks.
After DeBoer, UA quarterback Ty Simpson was asked about Cuevas’ importance to the offense.
“Very important,” Simpson said. “I think everybody knows that. Josh is an excellent player. So, not only is he great in the pass game, but he’s great in the run game, as well. Being able to just see him on the field and have his presence is just remarkable, especially having him in the huddle. Just a different type of vibe when he’s in there. So, I’m very excited about that.”
DeBoer also noted that center Parker Brailsford is practicing and “doing good.” Brailsford was active and started the SEC title game loss but battled through a lingering lower-leg injury.
Alabama will face Oklahoma on Friday, December 19, at 7 p.m. CT (on ABC and ESPN).
