Meet the New Guys: Jersey numbers, updated measurements for Alabama summer enrollees

Before Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama contingent answer questions at SEC Media Days later this week, the Crimson Tide and the other 15 teams released their media guides for 2025.
Only one scholarship player will be wearing a different number for the start of preseason camp later this month. Second-year wide receiver Aeryn Hampton changed from No. 21 to No. 6, per Alabama’s roster update. Hampton played in three games during the Tide’s 2024 season and maintained a year of eligibility. He missed the spring due to a lingering injury.
Three members of the Tide’s 2025 recruiting class made their way to Tuscaloosa in May. Tight end Kaleb Edwards, cornerback Chuck McDonald and defensive lineman London Simmons were the only true freshmen who did not participate in spring practice, but they have now been on campus for over a month and are getting set for their first preseason camp.
Alabama also brought in a couple of transfer tight ends during the winter portal window. Brody Dalton (Troy) and Jack Sammarco (West Virginia), as well as Edwards, give the Tide’s tight end room a much-needed boost in bodies. They also provide plenty of size for the position group, as all three players are listed as 6-foot-5 or taller and at least 250 pounds apiece.
ALABAMA’S SCHOLARSHIP SUMMER ADDITIONS
19 – Chuck McDonald, DB – 6-1, 194
81 – Kaleb Edwards, TE – 6-6, 264
85 – Jack Sammarco, TE – 6-5, 252
89 – Brody Dalton, TE – 6-5, 251
90 – London Simmson, DL – 6-3, 303

In fact, all five scholarship newcomers have added weight since their last listing, whether that was when they signed with Alabama or at their previous stops. Edwards and Sammarco are each 10-plus pounds heavier than the previous year, while Simmons added eight pounds. UA listed Edwards as 6-foot-6, 240 pounds when he signed. He is now 24 pounds heavier.
Alabama’s roster currently sits at 126 total players, but the Tide only added four walk-ons since the spring, according to the updated media guide. Walk-on quarterback John Gazzaniga is the sixth player in his position room and is now the tallest (and heaviest) signal-caller on the roster at 6-foot-7, 252 pounds. Alabama also added wide receiver Ben Jackson (Mobile, Alabama), defensive back Brody McCutcheon (Moody, Alabama) and placekicker Peter Notaro (Wexford, Pennsylvania) to its 2025 roster. All four players are true freshmen.
ALABAMA’S WALK-ON SUMMER ADDITIONS
13 – John Gazzaniga, QB – 6-7, 252
37 – Peter Notaro, PK – 5-11, 188
38 – Brody McCutcheon, DB – 6-1, 178
42 – Ben Jackson, WR – 6-2, 170
Alabama will begin preseason practice at the end of the month. DeBoer and select players will speak at SEC Media Days on July 16. Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for wall-to-wall coverage.
