Nate Oats provides positive updates on recoveries of two injured guards

Alabama basketball had two players that had to miss all of last year for injuries, Houston Mallette and Latrell Wrightsell. Speaking at the Regions Tradition on Wednesday, head coach Nate Oats detailed how their recoveries are progressing now over a month into the offseason.
“Houston Mallette, we submitted all the paperwork to the SEC for his medical redshirt, we don’t anticipate there being any issues there,” Oats said. “He’s in with (trainer) Clarke (Holter) about every day in the training room, he’s come along really well.”
Mallette played in six game last season, averaging 3.2 points per game and shooting 50 percent from three, but had to be shut down for the season due to recurring knee issues.
Prior to Mallette being shut down, Alabama lost Latrell Wrightsell to an Achilles tear, who is also receiving a medical redshirt after he averaged 11.5 points per game prior to his injury in the eighth game of the season.

“The one that’s a little more concerning with how he’s gonna be ready for next year is Trelly,” Oats said. “He’s way ahead of schedule from everything Clarke tells me. He’s working super hard, he’s doing everything he needs to do. We anticipate him being fully ready to go by the first game. He’s jumping, he cleared the jump. He’s been up here at Andrews, Dr. Waldrop was in charge of his surgery, he’s been pleased with where he’s at.”
Both players are slated to be major pieces as two of four returners on the Crimson Tide roster in 2025-26. The roster currently has two scholarships open, and Oats has said they are looking to fill at least one before the roster is complete.
