Qua Russaw injury update: Status of Alabama LB before Oklahoma game

Alabama linebacker Qua Russaw has missed the last five games with a foot injury. The Crimson Tide coaches have shared positive updates on the edge rusher in recent weeks, but what is the redshirt sophomore’s status for a pivotal Week 12 matchup with No. 11 Oklahoma?

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer provided the latest on Wednesday morning.

“I would say we’re unsure at this point,” DeBoer said on the SEC coaches teleconference. “Probably in that questionable range right now, at this minute. But he’s coming along nicely. I know I said that a week ago, I would consider it at least on, if not ahead of schedule, from what we originally thought. So, he’s done a great job, and he’s getting closer and closer. 

“So, we’ll just see how he feels here the rest of the week.”

Russaw played in the first four games of the season before suffering the injury in Alabama’s win over Georgia on Sept. 27. Before his setback, Russaw registered four tackles and one sack.

With Russaw and Jah-Marien Latham out with injuries, the Tide turned to Yhonzae Pierre at the Wolf linebacker position. The redshirt sophomore has been one of Alabama’s best defenders of late, registering 9.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles this season.

We will know more about Russaw’s status tonight when the SEC availability report is posted.

No. 4 Alabama will play host to No. 11 Oklahoma on Saturday, November 12, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Week 12 conference matchup is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.
