Alabama guard Rylan Griffen suffered a calf injury in Tuesday’s loss to Florida.

With 4:15 to play Griffen collided with a pair of Gators and fell to the court, favoring his right leg. Head coach Nate Oats was not happy that no foul was called and picked up a technical foul. Meanwhile, Griffen could not put any pressure on his right leg and needed help off the floor from a teammate and head trainer Clarke Holter. He went straight to the locker room.

Following the 105-87 loss to Florida at Exactech Arena, Oats offered an update on Griffen.

“He’s got a calf injury that we’re getting an MRI on in the morning,” Oats said. “I’m not sure if it’s a bruise, strain, something. I thought he got knocked down. I don’t know, they thought it was a loose ball that both guys were going for.”

Griffen played 25 minutes before his injury and only scored three points on 1-of-4 shooting. The sophomore entered the contest averaging 11.4 points in 30 appearances and 28 starts.

Alabama welcomed back guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr., who missed the last four outings due to a head injury, but only played eight minutes – all in the first half – and scored two points. After the game, Oats was asked about the usage of the guard in his long-awaited return.

“He’s coming back,” Oats said. “We had a good step in the right direction where we’re getting him some game reps, just trying to get him back in game shape so he’ll play more and more moving forward.”

The Tide will end the regular season at home game against Arkansas on Saturday, March 9.
