Sears named to Sporting News All-America Second Team, AP All-SEC First Team

Alabama men’s basketball guard Mark Sears has added a pair of awards to his resume in his senior season as the guard was named to the 2024 Sporting News All-America Second Team and the Associated Press (AP) First Team All-SEC, the organizations announced Tuesday.

Sears becomes the third UA player to earn All-America honors by Sporting News under head coach Nate Oats, joining Brandon Miller (Second Team, 2023) and Herbert Jones (Third Team, 2021). The senior from Muscle Shoals, Ala. joins Miller (AP First Team, 2023), Jones (First Team, 2021) and Kira Lewis Jr. (AP First Team, 2020) as the fourth player under Oats to be named an AP First Team All-SEC selection.

  • A 2024 Coaches First Team All-SEC selection
  • One of four SEC players to earn Sporting News All-America honors (Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht, First Team, Kentucky’s Antonio Reeves, Third Team and Auburn’s Johni Broome, Third Team)
  • Named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which annually recognizes the top point guard in Division I
  • One of four SEC players to be named to the ballot, the most by any conference in the country
  • Ranks No. 2 in the SEC in scoring (21.1 ppg), No. 6 in field goal percentage (50.6) and No. 6 in assists (4.1 apg)
  • Sears has scored 20 or more points in 21 games this season, the most by an Alabama player since Reggie King’s school-record 23 games in 1978-79
  • Sears is one of two players in Division I and the only Power 5 player this year that has 650 points, 125 assists, 120 rebounds and 75 three-pointers
