Tim Keenan injury update: Alabama DC shares promising news on Tide DL

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama’s defense will get a boost on Saturday at Georgia.
Redshirt senior defensive tackle Tim Keenan will make his 2025 debut in the top-20 matchup against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Sept. 27 (6:30 p.m. CT on ABC). Keenan has missed the first three games of the Crimson Tide’s campaign due to an injury suffered in the preseason.
Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack provided a positive update on Monday.
“Tim will be back for the game,” Wommack said. “He’s done a great job, has been practicing the last couple of days here and has looked pretty good. Credit to him and Jeff Allen and our staff for getting him ready to go. So excited, certainly, to have him back.
“Just the physicality that he brings, the experience, the block recognition, the ability to get off of blocks and certainly what he does for us not only in the run game, but I thought he has taken some strides in pass rush, as well, from an interior pass rusher. Excited to have him back this week.”

Last year, Keenan had his most productive season to date, recording 40 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, and he was in the starting lineup for all but the South Carolina game. Back for a fifth and final season, Keenan was voted a captain by his teammates ahead of the season and, despite not being able to play thus far, has led the Tide from the sideline.

His impact will be felt both on and off the field on Saturday in Athens, Georgia.
“He was voted team captain for a reason,” DeBoer said. “So the energy he’s brought the last even two to three weeks, just his juice, and he’s that way naturally. He loves this place. I think his perspective of being on the sideline has brought another level of energy to him that our defense and our whole team has responded to.
“And then on top of it, he’s a big anchor, big body in there that can kind of hold down the line of scrimmage, get a push in the pocket on pass plays. So, it’s good to have him back, and he’s had a couple good days here, continued to build here through the week of practice is what we’re expecting.”
