Football practice is back in Tuscaloosa, and Alabama has now held two preseason workouts.

There is both continuity and plenty of questions for Kalen DeBoer’s second year as the head coach of the Crimson Tide, and that all starts with the quarterback position. Ty Simpson is the frontrunner for the starting job behind center, but that competition is ongoing.

Alabama has a veteran team, especially on the defensive side of the ball, with eight starters coming back from last year’s squad. But there are still a few holes to fill, like at left guard or all three specialist positions. Punter might be the most wide-open battle right now.

The Tide is off today (Friday, August 1), so what better time than to recap a busy 48 hours on the Alabama beat? BamaOnLine has been on hand for portions of both practice sessions to begin fall camp, and staff writers Charlie Potter and Blake Byler joined forces to recap what they have seen and heard on the field and in post-practice press conferences.

The Alabama-related topics discussed by the guys include:

– Where did their eyes go on Day 1?

– Player(s) who caught their attention

– Praise for Dre Washington, Rico Scott

– Latest on Alabama QB competition

– Where other position battles stand

– And much, much more!
