What Kadyn Proctor thinks of 'Krispy' nickname for his package of plays

Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor has been used as a skill player in back-to-back games, first catching a screen pass against Georgia and then running the football against Vanderbilt.
Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson was asked if that package of plays has a name.
“Yeah, Krispy,” said Simpson after Tuesday’s Missouri week practice. “Because he said his nickname is Krispy Kreme. … All the donuts he eats. Don’t tell him I said that.”
It’s unlikely that Simpson revealed the real name of one of Alabama’s personnel groupings. But during an appearance on SportsCenter, Proctor got a chance to respond to Simpson’s joke.
“I’m really not too mad about it,” Proctor said. “A couple people actually have called me Krispy Kreme because my freshman year, I was a bit hefty, and I still am. But that was definitely my favorite snack, favorite go-to. When that ‘hot now’ sign is on, there ain’t nothing better than that, bro.”
Proctor’s 2-yard run against Vanderbilt came late in the fourth quarter and moved the chains on a 3rd and 1 at the Commodores’ 20-yard line. Both of his running plays this year — the Georgia screen pass was later ruled a catch instead of a catch — have resulted in first downs.
The 6-foot-7, 366-pound offensive tackle has played every offensive snap the last three weeks and has now split out wide and lined up in the backfield, the latter occurring against Vandy.

“First of all, what was going through my mind was, it’s pretty late in the game,” Proctor said. “I don’t know if he’s gonna run it. We’re kind of trying to close out the game. But I know Coach trusts me with the ball in my hands. I was trying to go out there and do what I do. That was an 8-minute drive, and I was kind of tired.
“I’m running into the blockers. I’m just trying to get the first down, honestly.”
But did Proctor’s spirits perk up when he heard the play call come in from his quarterback?
“No doubt,” Proctor said. “And Ty, he does a great job. He’s like,’ Hey, are you ready to go, man?’ And we just looked at each other and I nodded, because that’s my job, and I’ve gotta be ready to go.”
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, after the game, said the run play had not been installed as long as the screen pass. It was more basic — “Just give it to the big man and let him rumble.”
“He did a great job,” DeBoer said. “I mean, it’s just hard to bring down a guy that’s that size and that athletic. So, happy that he did a good job handling the football and securing it. It’s not something he does as much as the other guys, and it’s a big moment in the game.
“So, love the idea to put the call in. Love the play call and good execution.”
