What would a trip to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony mean to Ty Simpson?

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson enters Week 10 of the 2025 college football season with the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Simpson (+325) is tied with Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza as the top candidates for the coveted award, according to BetMGM’s latest odds update.
Simpson and the Crimson Tide (7-1, 5-0 SEC) are off this week and have four games left on the regular-season schedule. But it’s currently looking like the Alabama quarterback could at least earn an invitation to New York for this year’s Heisman ceremony. What would that mean?
“I’d be extremely blessed,” said Simpson during a Tuesday appearance on The Jim Rome Show. “It’d be a great opportunity. It’s super exciting. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for my teammates and everything they do. But I think back to the reason why I came to Alabama and the championship hallway that we have. And there’s only four Heisman Trophies, right, but there’s six national championships in there. And so, that’s what I really care about.
“Just trying to win, trying to be the best guy I can be and make sure that I can do everything for my teammates that gets us winning and gets us to what we dream about for a long time and what our ultimate goal is.”
In his first year as the starter, Simpson has thrown for 2,184 yards, 20 touchdowns and only one interception on 177-of-261 passing (67.8%). Simpson leads the SEC in passing touchdowns and is second in passing yards, passer rating (162.63) and passing yards per game (273.0). He also ranks fourth in completion percentage and fifth in yards per pass attempt (8.4).

Saturday’s road win at South Carolina marked the eighth game in a row — or every game this season — that Simpson has thrown for at least 200 yards and multiple touchdowns. But the UA offense struggled early in Columbia, producing only 208 yards and seven points in the first 50 minutes. But Simpson and company answered the bell late, piling up 117 yards and 15 points on the final two possessions to escape with a 29-22 road win over the Gamecocks.
Simpson credited the defense for keeping Alabama in it and giving the offense a chance late.
“The offense didn’t play up to our standards, but that’s why we have a good team, and our defense had our back,” Simpson said. “And in the critical times, in the critical moments, that’s where we stood up and made plays. But now, we just have to make sure that we start fast and sustain and play every quarter like we did the fourth quarter.
“South Carolina was a good team. It was a hostile environment. And we just never lost hope, never felt like the game got out of hand, always felt like we were in control, and just kept on playing and kept on fighting because that’s what this team does. We’re gonna keep punching and understand that every game we play is a 15-round boxing match.”
