Alabama basketball picked up one of the best wins of the young college basketball season this weekend with a 103-96 victory over then-No. 5 St. John’s on the road in Madison Square Garden.

The win proved to be extremely valuable in the eyes of voters, as the newest AP Poll on Monday moved the Crimson Tide up from No. 15 to No. 8.

Alabama is one of seven ranked SEC teams in the second poll of the season and is the highest-ranked team in the league, ahead of No. 9 Kentucky, No. 10 Florida, No. 20 Tennessee, No. 21 Arkansas and No. 22 Auburn.

The Crimson Tide’s next opponent, Purdue, is the second-ranked team in the poll after beating Evansville and Oakland in the opening week of the season. It sets up a top-10 clash inside Coleman Coliseum this Thursday night, one of the biggest non-conference home games Alabama has had under head coach Nate Oats.

Tipoff between No. 8 Alabama and No. 2 Purdue is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2 this Thursday.
