Auburn forward Keyshawn Hall suffered a lateral ankle and foot sprain in the loss to Houston, head coach Steven Pearl announced Tuesday.

There is no timeline for an exact return for Auburn’s leading scorer.

“He had an x-ray on his ankle yesterday, had an x-ray on his foot today,” Pearl said. “Just in the last couple of days, he’s been in here every opportunity that he can, getting treatment and obviously trying to get back as quickly as possible.”

AUBURN MUST STEP UP AS A TEAM

Hall leads Auburn in scoring this season, averaging 23.3 points per game. Prior to leaving the Houston game with just over four minutes remaining, Hall tallied 20 points. In all four games this season, Hall scored at least 20 points.

Now, with Hall expected to be out of the lineup for the indefinite future, there’s a need to fill the void.

“We all have to step up as a team and we understood that as soon as it happened at the Houston game,” said senior forward KeShawn Murphy. “We already understood that there’s more minutes to be played for somebody else. There’s opportunities and more advantages to some guys that want more minutes. I think we understand that. Keyshawn Hall is in a good space. He can get his rest, man, get back right for whenever he’s able to get back on the court. And we’ll be all right as a team.”

PEARL LOOKING TO GET MORE FROM GUARDS

As far as what the lineup looks like with Hall absent, Pearl plans to work with several different rotations in Tuesday’s practice. He’s also looking to get more out of his guards.

“Tahaad (Pettiford), KO (Kevin Overton), Elyjah (Freeman) are going to have to do a little more offensively,” Pearl said. “Sebastian (Williams-Adams) is going to be asked to do a little more. We’ve got to get Filip (Jovic) a little more involved offensively because he’s capable.”

Auburn also seeks more depth at the guard position, whether ir be Blake Muschalek, Abdul Bashir, Simon Walker or even Kaden Magwood stepping up.

“It’s open audition right now for those guys,” Pearl said. “If they want to show me that, defensively, they’re really good at keeping their man in front, and they can physically check out and keep their man off the boards, then they’re gonna find more ways to get minutes. I have a lot of confidence in those guys offensively.”

Auburn tips off against Jackson State at 8 p.m. CST on Wednesday. Hall is not expected to play.

“I wouldn’t expect Key to play tomorrow,” Pearl said. “I don’t want him to play tomorrow. I want him to be healthy, and I want him to get back to 100%, because this is a long season. We’re gonna prepare for this week and, obviously, prepare for next week as if we may not have him.”
