Auburn injury updates: Champ Anthony cleared

Auburn plays South Alabama in game three of the 2025 season Saturday and will be donning its classic white uniforms at home for the first time since 2008.
Head coach Hugh Freeze provided updates on his team Thursday morning.
Champ Anthony cleared
One of the leaders of the defense, Champ Anthony, had surgery on a broken thumb last week. Freeze said that Anthony has been cleared to play.
“He practiced this week, but it’s very tentative, you can tell,” Freeze said. “I think it’ll probably help once he gets his stitches and stuff out. I think he’ll feel better. He’ll be dressed. I’m not sure exactly how many snaps he’ll get.”

Alston remains questionable
Running back Damari Alston, who missed last week’s game with a minor shoulder injury, remains questionable for the game against South Alabama. Alston went through practice this week non-contact, but a final decision won’t be made until Saturday.
“It’ll be game time,” Freeze said. “We’ll see how he feels in pregame, how the doctors feel about his strength and his shoulder and stuff and go from there.”
