AUBURN — No. 4 national seed Auburn left no doubts on Sunday night.

The Tigers smashed N.C. State, 11-1, advancing to the program’s fifth Super Regional. It’s the fourth Super Regional under Butch Thompson, and Auburn now has the opportunity to host a Super Regional for the first time in program history.

“Thankful for being able to get through this tough regional,” Thompson said. “That was a grind for us. Never hosted a super regional before. Pretty excited about that. They fought hard, they were connected. They played a pretty solid three days for us.”

Auburn scored seven runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth inning and one in the eighth. N.C. State scored their only run in the eighth inning. The Tigers improved to 31-1 on the season when leading after eight innings.

Another monster crowd of 7,373 fans watched history being made. In Auburn’s three regional games, a Plainsman Park regional record 22,174 fans were in attendance.

Player of the game: Chris Rembert

The freshman sure broke out of his 1-for-10 slump in the first two regional games. Rembert went 4-for-6 with four RBI and two runs scored on the day, doing all his damage before the fifth inning was even complete.

Hitters of the game: Ike Irish, Bub Terrell and Chase Fralick

Terrell went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run scored and one walk, upping his hit total to seven in the three regional games. All Irish did was hit a 420-foot three-run homer that went viral on social media, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead at the time. Irish went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run scored and one walk. Fralick went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run scored and one walk.

Rembert, Terrell and Irish — Auburn’s 1-3 hitters — combined for 11 hits in the win.

Pitcher of the game: Andreas Alvarez

The freshman was 2-1 with an ERA of 6.00 in 36 innings pitched this season. In the biggest start of his life, Alvarez was tremendous against the Wolfpack. He threw five full innings, allowing just six hits, walking only one and striking out five. Alvarez faced just 21 batters in five innings of work. When Alvarez left the game, he received a well-deserved standing ovation from the Auburn faithful.
