Auburn starts outside top-25 for fifth consecutive season

The preseason AP poll released Monday morning.
Auburn will begin the season unranked for the fifth consecutive year.
The Tigers received 10 votes in the initial poll, the most votes the program has received in a preseason poll in three years. It ranks 37th in voting, finishing behind 11 SEC programs — including No. 1 Texas.
Breaking down the schedule
Four of Auburn’s opponents this season made the cut for the initial top-25 poll, although two additional opponents received votes.
Auburn’s season-opener on Aug. 29 will be against Baylor, which nearly made the cut. The Bears finished 28th in voting with 132 votes, 59 votes shy of making the top-25.
Hugh Freeze potentially gets his first shot at a ranked opponent in Week 4, facing No. 18 Oklahoma on the road to open SEC play. One week later, Auburn plays at No. 19 Texas A&M — the only top-25 win for the program over the last three seasons came against the Aggies last year.
The Tigers then get an off week before hosting No. 5 Georgia on Oct. 11 for a night game in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
