The Tennessee Titans on Friday announced the team has agreed to terms with former Auburn standout Roger McCreary.

And he’s going to do quite well.

McCreary’s deal is worth $9.165 million with a $3.845 million signing bonus, per Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network.

“The deal includes base salaries of $705,000, $1.121 million, $1.538 million and $1.954 million,” Wilson wrote.

The Titans selected McCreary, a cornerback, with the 35th overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft this spring after he had a stellar career for the Tigers.

McCreary is expected to play a lot in Year 1

Profootballrumors.com thinks McCreary will make an immediate impact in the NFL.

“McCreary will compete for a starting role right away (with the Titans),” the site noted. “The Titans have Kristian Fulton penciled in as a starter, but 2021 first-rounder Caleb Farley could be the favorite at this point to line up opposite him. McCreary’s skillset lends itself to paying effectively on the inside as well, though, so a significant role early in his career is well within reach.”

McCreary was a highly decorated player. At Auburn, he recorded six interceptions and 32 pass breakups in four seasons. He had two interceptions and 16 pass breakups in 2021 and led the SEC in deflections. For that, multiple organizations named him an All-American following the season.

“McCreary committed to South Alabama in high school because he believed it was going to be the best scholarship offer he would get,” ESPN.com wrote. “Auburn’s coaches finally came around to offering him after his senior season, and he has developed into one of the best lockdown cornerbacks in the country. This season, he had 49 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and 14 pass breakups.”

He was a diamond in the rough for Auburn

McCreary was highly underrated coming out of Mobile (Ala.) Williamson, where he was ranked as only the No. 34 prospect in the state of Alabama.

A trio of Auburn coaches at the time, however, saw something in McCreary that many other notable college programs did not. They were: defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, secondary coach Greg Brown and area recruiter Travis Williams.

McCreary already made a significant impact with the Tigers by his second season in Auburn.
