Florida DB Aaron Gates scheduled for surgery this week
After suffering an injury in the Florida Gators’ loss to Miami earlier this month, redshirt sophomore defensive back Aaron Gates is set to have labrum surgery this week, Gators Online can confirm. That surgery is expected to take place on Wednesday, sources told Gators Online.
Florida seemed to think that Gates was on the up with his injury
Florida head coach Billy Napier met with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference. He’s typically guarded with injury questions. However, he was asked about Aaron Gates and the potential chance of him appearing in the game this weekend against Texas after leaving UF’s game against Miami with an injury.
“We do anticipate potentially getting Aaron back,” Napier said on Monday. “So, but that’s going to be day-to-day depending on kind of how that goes,” Napier said. “But I think we got good news on that front, and then obviously you’ll get an injury report Wednesday night.”
Aaron Gates has already had one major injury at Florida
This isn’t the first setback in a season for Florida STAR defensive back Aaron Gates. He suffered an ACL tear during his senior year of high school. Furthermore, Gates suffered the same injury this past season while at Florida during UF’s upset win over Ole Miss. It was a tough road to recovery. However, Aaron Gates impressively healed quickly and was ready to play this season in week 1. While coming back from his injury, Gates leaned on his teammates.

“All my teammates, honestly, they was all there for me,” Gates told Gators Online earlier this year. “Even when it first happened, I had a great group of teammates that was just rallying around me every day in the building, building me up. Kamran James was another; he was always there every day, trying to motivate me. ‘We got you, we got your back.’ So, I just appreciate all my teammates to be honest.”
Before the injury in the contest against the Hurricanes, Aaron Gates had accounted for 7 tackles and had appeared in all four of UF’s games this season.
