GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators men’s basketball rising sophomore Alex Condon has been named to the Australia Select team, Basketball Australia announced on Wednesday. He will compete at the Nissay Cup in Japan on June 22 and 23.

A selected group from that series will return to attend training camp in late June with the Olympic-select Boomers squad in Melbourne. The Australia Select team, coached by Dean Vickerman, will play at the Hokkaido Sports Center in Hokkaido, Japan.

Condon, a 6-foot-11 native of Perth, Australia, earned Southeastern Conference All-Freshman honors at Florida during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 7.7 points, recording two double-doubles and 14 double-figure scoring games.

Condon led all SEC freshmen in rebounding average (6.4) and blocked shots (45), also leading UF in blocked shots. He made his first career start in the NCAA Tournament against Colorado, the first Gator in program history to do so.

Condon posted a season-best four straight double-figure scoring performances over the final two regular season and first two SEC Tournament games.

“I think I started the season pretty good,” Condon said prior to March Madness. “I scored the ball well, and I was shooting comfortably. Had a little dip mid-season. I was trying to come back with consistent performances and not trying to force anything. And I think the team playing well made it easier to transition back to playing well and I’ve been happy about (his play).”

Condon earned his first career double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds against Merrimack. It marked the most rebounds by a UF freshman since Al Horford (18 vs. Alabama, 2004-05), and his nine offensive boards matched the most by any Gator this century.

Condon posted 11 points and 15 rebounds at Ole Miss, becoming the first UF player this century with 10 offensive rebounds in a game and the first Florida freshman with multiple 15-rebound games.

“He’s doing great,” Gators coach Todd Golden said of Condon during the season. “Condon’s playing late games, you know, especially in fast situations or one-possession games, and I think I’ve talked about him a lot in terms of how much I appreciate his competitiveness and you can’t flap that dude out there. You know, he’s pretty nails in that way.”

Condon scored 16 of his season-high 17 points in the second half vs. FAMU. He also scored 14 points off the bench and played heavy minutes late during the double overtime win vs. Michigan.
