GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators redshirt senior offensive lineman Lyndell Hudson Jr., a transfer from FIU, missed fall practice for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

According to a program source, Hudson was involved in a car accident and put in concussion protocol. It was not a major accident and he’s doing OK, the source added.

Hudson is expected to serve as Florida’s backup to starting right tackle Damieon George. Former right tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin recently left the program due to family reasons

“We’ve still got enough bullets in the chamber there when it comes to Damieon George. You’ve got Lyndell, and you’ve got Jordan Herman. So, we’ve got guys there that can play football for us,” UF offensive coordinator Rob Sale said of losing Goodwin.

Hudson committed to the Gators on May 13 for his final year of eligibility. Hudson appeared in 38 games for FIU and made 25 starts between 2019-22 after redshirting in 2018. He dealt with a nagging back injury in 2022, which limited his playing time.

Pro Football Focus gave Hudson an 82.3 grade in 2020 as a run blocker, the best grade in that category for his career. He was rated as the best pass blocker (among offensive linemen) on the team and the eleventh-best player on FIU’s offense in 2022 per PFF.

“You watch his tape, he has the movement skills that you’re looking for,” Sale said of Hudson. “And then you’ve got to trust your plan and develop how you get guys caught up to speed there. That’s our part, to get him to play that way. But you watch his tape, he’s a guy that can change directions, long, hard to get around. So, we’re expecting good things from him.”
