A season of promise for the Florida Gators is now a season on the brink. Beat Miami on the road Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium and they potentially could right the ship. But lose, and things will have officially gone sideways just four games in. It’s unranked Florida (1-2) vs. the No. 4 ‘Canes (3-0) in what probably is the most important game for Billy Napier in his four seasons at UF.

“Obviously a really good Miami team that’s talented across the board at every position, get to play on the big stage and I know our guys are looking forward to it. We’re off to a good start so far this week,” Napier said. “And I’m excited about the opportunity. I know our players are as well.”

Florida-Miami Game Notes

—Miami leads the all-time series with UF, 30–27.

—This will mark the Florida Gators’ 43rd ESPN GameDay appearance. All-time, the Gators have the third most GameDay appearances and fourth most GameDay wins. They are 26-16.

—Florida hasn’t beaten a ranked Miami team since 1982. The Gators are 0-8 vs. ranked Miami squads since that win in Gainesville. Their last win at Miami came in 1985.

—UF has never beaten a Miami team ranked in the top 10 in seven tries.

—The Florida defense ranks 28th nationally in yards allowed (264.3 ) and 26th (12.67) in scoring. But the two teams the Gators just lost to, LSU and USF, are only 94th and 86th, respectively, in total offense. Miami’s offense is 22nd at 486 yards per game.

—The UF defense has allowed two total touchdowns this season and a total of 29 points (2 touchdowns, 5 field goals). Florida is one of 11 FBS programs and one of two SEC schools to allow two or fewer touchdowns this season.

—’Canes quarterback Carson Beck, a Georgia transfer, leads the Hurricanes with 812 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. adds balance with 272 rushing yards at 6.5 yards per carry.

—In the loss to LSU last week, Florida running back Jadan Baugh caught a career-best seven passes for 59 yards. That was the most receptions by a UF running back since Robert Gillespie caught 10 against Tennessee in 2001.

—Gators receiver Vernell Brown III ranks second among FBS true freshmen in receptions (16), third in yards per game (65.7), third in receiving yards (197), and 10th in yards per catch (12.3).

—Gators quarterback DJ Lagway is averaging 6.3 yards per attempt, down from 10.0 yards per attempt in 2024. His longest completion after three games is 41 yards. Considered one of college football’s best at throwing the deep ball in 2024, those plays just haven’t been there so far this season.

—Napier enters this game 3-11 against UF’s primary rivals.
