Former All-American signee pens goodbye to Gator Nation
Now in the NCAA Transfer Portal, former Gators safety Kamari Wilson went to social media on Thursday to say goodbye and explain his reasoning behind transferring.
A graduate of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, Wilson was the third-ranked safety and No. 47-ranked prospect in the 2022 class. That is according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“Gator Nation!!! You will always hold a special place in my heart. You guys welcomed me with open arms and I am forever grateful,” Wilson posted on Thursday morning.
“My family and I came to the decision for myself to redshirt after the 3rd game this season so I could retain another year of eligibility. My decision was not based on any external factors that might have been floating around. I have the utmost respect for the Gators’ coaching staff; I just felt like I needed a change!
“I currently hold a 3.76 GPA and know I will make a positive impact wherever I end up, both on and off the field. Again, just wanted to say thank you for everything Gator Nation and I’m excited about what the future holds!”
Wilson, a native of Fort Pierce, Florida, played in all 13 games for the Gators in 2022.
The former Under Armour All-American made two starts as a freshman and debuted in the season-opening win over Utah. He finished the season with 39 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.
