After a trip to Gainesville for Florida’s Orange and Blue Game, four-star offensive tackle Lucas Simmons will return to The Swamp, he announced in a tweet today. Offensive coordinator Rob Sale and defensive line coach Sean Spencer stopped by to see Simmons at his high school on Wednesday, securing a visit for Saturday. While Florida continues to make up on lost time, getting the in-state talent to campus twice in three weeks is a step in the right direction.

According to the  On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Simmons is the No. 127 player nationally, No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 25 player in Florida. On3 Sports’ ranking has even higher, as the No. 88 nationally, No. 7 offensive tackle and No. 20 player in Florida.

Simmons continues to learn more about Florida

Last time Simmons was at UF, the entire Florida staff tweeted #HejaGators, a cheer referring to Simmons’ home in Sweden.

“It was cool. It meant a lot,” Simmons told Gators Online. “For them, it’s small, but it means a lot to me. It’s really cool to see how some schools really want to stand out with stuff they do and separate themselves.

“That’s something I really appreciated. Even though it’s a small thing for them, it meant a lot to me.”

Simmons won’t deny that Florida came in late to his recruitment, so the Gators are worked vigilantly to land the 6-foot-8.5, 295.5-pound prospect. Still, he likes the staff at Florida and wants to continue to get to know them.

“I’m getting to know them more and more. They came in kind of late, but I still feel good about them as people and coaches.”

Simmons starts to take official visits

Last weekend, Simmons took an official visit to Oklahoma State, seeing the Pokes up close and personal. Simmons’ father played at Oklahoma from 1996 to 1998. With great genetics, a massive frame and room to grow as a football player, the sky is the limit for Simmons. USC, Baylor, Florida State and Tennessee continue to recruit the Clearwater Academy International player hard.

“I am not sure when I will commit yet,” Simmons told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I do not want to rush anything. A lot of schools are still recruiting me, so I want to take my time. I know I will take some official visits this spring and summer.

“That is what I am working on first.”
