The Florida Gators strong week on the recruiting front continued on Saturday afternoon. Brunswick (Ga.) 4-star tight end Heze Kent became the latest addition to Florida’s 2026 recruiting class. With Kent now in the fold, he’s the third commitment this week for the Orange and Blue. Kent is a longtime target for the Gators, and he picked UF over other finalists Florida State, Miami, and Texas.

Florida assistant Russ Callaway was huge in this recruitment

The Florida Gators have recruited Heze Kent for multiple years. Though Rivals lists him as an offensive tackle, Kent has been targeted by UF as a tight end. Offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Russ Callaway ran point in recruiting Kent for Florida. Callaway’s influence on both the offense and Kent’s position played a part in this commitment. The level of comfort that Kent developed after multiple trips to The Swamp over the years also helped.

“Russ being the OC, that helps the tight ends get involved in the offense,” Kent told Gators Online. “Florida is just a good place,” said Kent. “It’s just a cool vibe there. You can just chill and go out. If you got homework, you can sit down at different places and do anything. It’s just a cool place to be at.”

Not only did Coach Callaway win over Heze Kent, but he also won over the family, high school coaches, and people close to Kent.

“My family loves him, and the vibe is definitely there,” Kent said of Callaway. “I like how he keeps it real. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. The person he is off the field is the same person he is on the field. He’s just an awesome dude.

Heze Kent is commitment No. 18 for the Florida Gators

With Heze Kent now in the fold, the Florida Gators sit with 18 verbal commitments in the 2026 class. He joins Winter Garden (Fla.) Windermere 4-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh, Duncanville (Texas) 4-star edge Kevin Ford, Fort Myers (Fla.) 4-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil, Tuskegee (Ala.) Booker T. Washington 4-star WR Marquez Daniel, Tupelo (Miss.) 4-star Edge JaReylan McCoy, Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz 4-star WR Justin Williams, Lakeland (Fla.) 4-star LB Malik Morris, Milton (Fla.) 4-star S Kaiden Hall, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes 4-star RB Carsyn Baker, Tampa (Fla.)
