Florida Gators defensive lineman Gervon Dexter and offensive lineman O’Cyrus Torrence were named to the Walter Camp preseason All-American list on Tuesday afternoon. Torrence was named a first-team offensive lineman, while Dexter made the second-team list.

It is the first time either player has been named to the preseason All-American list.

Torrence started and appeared in 11 games for Louisiana in 2021. He was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference. Torrence was part of the O-line that only allowed 1.86 sacks per game. He helped the Ragin Cajuns’ offense rank tied for 10th nationally and first in the Sun Belt in rushing touchdowns (34), tied 18th in the country in total touchdowns (58), conference leaders, and tied 23rd nationally in first downs (313). Torrence is slated to start for the Gators on the offensive line this season. He also joined the Gators Online Podcast this offseason.

Dexter appeared in all 13 games last season and made nine starts. He had a team-high nine tackles (eight solo) with a TFL in the Gasparilla Bowl vs. UCF. The rising junior is moving into a veteran leadership role now.

I kind of got to lead now. That’s been the thing for me. With Zach Carter and a lot of the older guys leaving, each year I had to step into a bigger role. Now this year all eyes on me as the d-line leader. That’s been the thing. I’m the older guy that the younger guys look toward. It’s time for me to lead.”

Dexter is one of the more promising players on the Gators this season and one that could wind up a first-round pick after this season.
