Florida Gators commit and Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit quarterback, Will Griffin, has added his name to Tampa Bay football history.

The senior has become the area’s all-time career passing leader with 10,677 yards. He passed former Jefferson standout Quentin Williams, who previously threw for 10,384. The Tampa Bay mark includes Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Griffin has already reached several milestones this season. He became the 10th quarterback in Florida high school history to throw for more than 10,000 yards, having passed Tim Tebow on the state’s all-time list back in August. Griffin is now within 1,000 yards of cracking the state’s top three.

“Feels great,” Griffin told Gators Online after surpassing Tebow. “I’ve had some great trainers, my dad believed in me—he’s been giving me every opportunity possible, he’s put me in positions, so many good coaches. I’m grateful for Northside. I’m grateful for Jesuit. I’m grateful for my team.

Jesuit is currently 4-1 and chasing another playoff run, giving Griffin more chances to add to his record-breaking career.

Why Florida won out for the Under Armour All-American

“Confidence is key. Coach (Billy) Napier and (quarterbacks) coach (Ryan) O’Hara, what made me believe in them is their confidence in the players and their recruitment they’ve been doing to get all these great players,” Griffin said when he committed. “They can’t play for us but they can teach us. I can tell from being a recruit the last two years and I’ve seen them develop and the players have trust in each other and the confidence (Napier) displays as a leader and confidence he has in his players to go out there.

“A big thing for me is family. I love seeing my family whenever I can. Florida is one of the closest schools to my home, a two and a half hour drive. Family is just a big thing for me in general. When I’m close to home after a tough weekend I can come home see my family or go to my brother’s high school games. It’s a big thing for me. It’s driving distance. They can drive to my game on Saturdays. That was a big part of my decision for sure.”
