Warchant TV: Link Jarrett on legacy, loss of Florida State icon Mike Martin Sr.
Legendary Florida State baseball head coach Mike Martin Sr. passed away on Thursday at the age of 79 after a battle with Lewy body dementia.
Martin’s boundless legacy is embedded not only within the college baseball community but at Florida State where his former player Link Jarrett took the reins of the Seminoles program in 2023.
Following an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Jarrett, a Tallahassee native who lettered under Martin from 1991-94, reflected on the impact of Martin within the Florida State clubhouse and the once niche but now burgeoning sport he helped shape.

A memorial for Martin will be held on the field that bears his name on Saturday, Feb. 10 at noon.
Martin is the all-time winningest coach in college baseball history with 2,029 wins. Florida State never had a losing season on Martin’s watch and made it to the College World Series 17 times including runner up finishes in 1986 and 1999. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol; children Mike Jr, Melanie and Mary Beth; and grandchildren Hannah Elizabeth, Tyler, Thomas Joseph and Lexi.Â
