Carson Beck returning to Georgia for 2024 season

Carson Beck has made a decision on his football future. He announced Monday that he will be coming back to Georgia for the 2024 season.
Beck arrived at Georgia in January of 2020 as a four-star prospect. His plan was to do like any mid-year enrollee and get a head start by going through spring drills with the team. Those plans didn’t pan out due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bulldogs, like every other program in the country, cancelled spring drills as classes were shifted from in-person to online.
The team came back together during the summer for an altered preseason camp in preparation for a truncated 2020 season. The SEC went to a 10-game, conference-only schedule where the Bulldogs only played nine after its contest with Vanderbilt was cancelled due to COVID issues within the Commodore Program. Beck appeared in one game that season, entering the Missouri game in the fourth quarter. That season did not count against his or any other college football player’s eligibility.
Things were much more normal in 2021 as Beck prepared all spring, summer, and preseason camp to be the backup to JT Daniels. When Daniels was forced to miss the UAB game with an oblique injury, it appeared as if Beck might get his shot. The Georgia staff went with Stetson Bennett as the starter instead and her responded with a five-touchdown performance in the blowout.

Bennett ended up taking over for Daniels that season as the latter dealt with more injuries and helped lead the Bulldogs to its first National Championship in 41 years. Beck appeared in four games that season, preserving a redshirt and allowing him to enter the 2022 campaign with four years of eligibility.
Beck served as Bennett’s backup in 2022 and showed a great deal of improvement. He played in eight of UGA’s 15 games, completing 26 of 35 passes for 310 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. That included an appearance in Georgia’s 65-7 National Championship win over TCU as the Bulldogs went back-to-back.
While he wasn’t announced as the starter until late in preseason camp, Beck entered 2023 as the heavy favorite to win the quarterback battle over Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton. He started with the first-team offense on G-Day and was, by far, the most impressive quarterback that day. Beck has started all 13 of Georgia’s games this season, amassing a 12-1 record and completing 72.4 percent of his passes for 3,738 yards 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also ran for 127 yards and four touchdowns.
