College Football Playoff Ranking: Georgia climbs a spot for Week 13

Georgia’s 35-10 win over Texas combined with an Alabama loss to Oklahoma has moved the Bulldogs up a spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. UGA now ranks No. 4. That ranking has Kirby Smart’s team with a projected bye in the College Football Playoffs.
Ohio State holds the No. 1 spot, followed by Indiana at No. 2. Texas A&M is at No. 4 and Texas Tech comes in at No. 5. Ole Miss is the Bulldogs’ best win of the season. It ranks No. 6. After losing to Georgia, Texas falls to No. 17. UGA has one more ranked team on the schedule, Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets rank No. 16.
Georgia started the season with three straight wins over Marshall, Austin Peay, and Tennessee. The Bulldogs needed overtime in that SEC opener vs. the Volunteers, currently ranked ranked No. 23. UGA tied the game at 38 in regulation with a fourth-down touchdown connection between Gunner Stockton and London Humphreys to make it 38-36. Stockton then found Zachariah Branch for the two-point conversion to even things up. The Bulldogs won the game by holding Tennessee to a field goal and scoring a touchdown in the first overtime series.
After its first bye week of the season, Georgia dropped its only game thus far. Alabama, ranked No. 10, came into Sanford Stadium and beat the Bulldogs 24-21 as the home team squandered a couple of late opportunities.
Since that loss, Georgia has reeled off six straight wins, all against SEC foes. It got back on track with a comfortable 35-14 win over Kentucky where the Bulldogs led 35-7 entering the fourth quarter before emptying the bench.

Next the Bulldogs traveled to Auburn and trailed 10-0 before scoring 20 unanswered points to take down the Tigers for the ninth straight time. The Bulldogs forced a fumble inches from their own goal line to start the rally.
Kirby Smart and company returned to Athens the next week to take on Ole Miss, which fell one spot to No. 7. The Rebels scored touchdowns on their first five possessions, but Stockton helped Georgia keep pace. When the Bulldog defense got a couple of stops in the fourth quarter, the offense responded with a pair of touchdowns and a field goal to win 43-35.
UGA followed that up with a trip to Jacksonville and left with its fifth straight win over Florida. Once again, it required fourth-quarter heroics with Chauncey Bowens ripping off a 36-yard touchdown run to put Georgia on top with 4:36 to go. The defense responded with a four and out, allowing the offense to milk the final three minutes and 13 seconds off the clock.
A trip to Mississippi State came next, and Georgia blew the Maroon Bulldogs out at home. After falling behind 7-0, UGA reeled off 38 unanswered points. The final score was 41-21.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a Senior Day matchup with Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 12:45 p.m. ET.
