Darnell Washington tells Georgia football fans to get their popcorn ready

Darnell Washington wants you to get your popcorn ready as it relates to his 2022 football season. For Georgia football fans, they’re happy to oblige ‘Big 0.’

It may as well be a trip to go see ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ The Dawgs would love for Darnell Washington to put on a show in 2022.

But the rest of college football has a large problem on its hands if Washington delivers on that sentiment. Watching six feet, seven inches and 265 pounds of tight end catch footballs over linebackers and run through your defensive backs would not entertain them.

That is not, in fact, why they are here.

The fact that Darnell Washington returned to Georgia – instead of seeking greener transfer portal pastures – tells me that Kirby Smart and Todd Monken have an answer to the question everyone is asking:

‘How is Georgia possibly going to keep all of its tight ends happy?’

Brock Bowers was the SEC’s freshman of the year. Leading Georgia receiver in 2022. It’s well-documented.

Arik Gilbert set a lot of high 2022 expectations among the Georgia faithful with a dominant G-Day performance. So he appears to be in the fold.

And Darnell Washington still thinks he has something up his sleeve for Georgia in the 2022 season. Todd Monken’s entire plan revolves around setting his offense’s best position groups up for success, and watching them carry it out.

Monken earned a massive pay bump as a result of what he’s done for the Dawgs. It’s working.

Darnell Washington has enough faith in that plan to not only stay, but share a warning shot to the rest of college football. If it works, it sounds like a highway to the Danger Zone for Georgia’s opponents.
