ATHENS, Ga. — Mark your calendars, the Georgia Bulldogs are going to be back between the hedges before too long. The annual G-Day Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 13th at Sanford Stadium.

In a matchup that splits the team in half, Kirby Smart and company will get to see a bit of a preview of the 2024 team. The intrasquad scrimmage wraps up a five-week stretch of spring practice – starting March 12th – where the Bulldogs will work a total of 15 times including three scrimmages.

After a 2023 season that saw Georgia fall in the SEC Championship Game to Alabama, the Bulldogs are once again expected to be among the nation’s best. Oddsmakers across several different sports books consider UGA to be the favorite to take home a third national championship in four seasons.

Quarterback Carson Beck returns for another season at the helm having a year of experience under his belt. Beck threw for the third-most yards in the country while the offense as a whole finished No. 5 nationally in both scoring and total offense. He’ll have the likes of Oscar Delp, Dillon Bell, Dominic Lovett and others to work with behind an offensive line that features four players that started at least nine games last season (Earnest Greene, Tate Ratledge, Xavier Truss, Dylan Fairchild).

Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball are guys like Malaki Starks, Smael Mondon and Mykel Williams – who help bring experience at each level of the defense. The safety Starks was an All-American while Mondon finished second on the team in tackles at linebacker. Add in defensive linemen Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson who passed on the NFL for another season in Athens, sophomores CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson who played significant parts as true freshmen in 2023 and talented players waiting to emerge into even bigger stars like Jalon Walker, Jordan Hall, Daylen Everette and Joenel Aguero, and there are all the makings of a special unit.

Don’t forget about the first opportunity to see newcomers in action either. Georgia signed the nation’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class for 2024 headlined by five stars Ellis Robinson, Justin Williams, KJ Bolden and Joseph Jonah-Ajonye. All four of them are among the 22 early enrollees already on campus getting set to go through spring practice. Plus, the Bulldogs also added seven players through the transfer portal (Florida RB Trevor Etienne, Miami WR Colbie Young, Vanderbilt WR London Humphreys, South Carolina DL Xzavier McLeod, USC WR Michael Jackson III and Alabama DB Jake Pope) with hopes of instant impacts out of most, if not all, of them. Stanford TE Ben Yurosek is also an addition, but he won’t join the Bulldogs until the summer.

A kickoff time and television network for the game has yet to be determined. With ongoing renovations at Sanford Stadium, attendance is expected to be somewhat limited – as was the case in 2023 as well.
