Georgia moves to 2-0 with sloppy 28-6 win over Austin Peay

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia has it second win of the 2025 season in as many tries, but it was far from satisfying for those who made their way to Athens. The Bulldogs beat Austin Peay 28-6 in a game that was delayed for over an hour and a half due to lightning in the area.
Gunner Stockton struggled despite a stat line that reads 26 completions in 34 attempts for 227 yards and no interceptions. Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens each reached the end zone twice on the ground while Colbie Young caught seven passes for 76 yards to lead all receivers.
Defensively, CJ Allen led the way with seven total tackles, a tackle and a half for loss, and a sack. Chris Cole notched two stops and a sack while Raylen Wilson racked up seven stops and a half tackle for loss.
The game got off to an inauspicious start with Frazier fumbling on the fourth play from scrimmage. Austin Peay recovered it, but the Bulldog defense stood tall, forcing a three and out. Georgia’s offense went right to work from its own 20-yard line. It put together a 10-play, 80-yard drive that saw Bowens reach the end zone for the first time in his career to open the scoring.
After a second straight defensive stop, Frazier capped off a 59-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 13-0 lead and Peyton Woodring tacked on the PAT to push the lead to 14-0.

Austin Peay put together one of it’s best drives of the day on the ensuing possession, one that traveled 48 yards and ended with a 44-yard field goal. Georgia got the ball back with over nine minutes left in the second quarter and that’s when the struggles started.
The Bulldogs went three and out, gaining six yards on the possession before punting it back. An Ellis Robinson interception got the ball back to the offense quickly, but Georgia couldn’t do anything with it. After snagging a first down on the second play of the drive, the Bulldogs went backward and ended up punting.

Stockton and company had a chance to get back on the board with its two-minute offense at the end of the first half, traveling 53 yards on 10 plays. Georgia came away empty handed after Bowens was stopped for a loss, allowing time to run out on the first half. Ethan Barbour suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury on that play that knocked him out for the rest of the game.
As the two teams entered the locker room for halftime, the announcement was made inside Sanford Stadium that the game would be delayed due to lightning in the area. Play resumed at 6:02 p.m. ET. Georgia’s defense started the second half with a three and out and the offense made it count with a seven-play, 60 yard drive that Bowens capped off with a 14-yard touchdown run. Woodring’s PAT extended the lead to to 21-0.
The Governors got on the board for a second time on their ensuing possession, hitting a 43-yard field goal to cut Georgia’s lead to 21-6. They threatened to make it a one-score game at the start of the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs executed a goal line stand to keep the score stable.
The Bulldog offense responded by putting the game away, using 17 plays to travel 99 yards. Frazier notched his second touchdown of the day from one yard out and Woodring capped off the scoring with the PAT.
Georgia’s early-season, non-conference slate is complete and a trip to Knoxville is next. The Bulldogs will take on Tennessee next Saturday, September 13, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
