Georgia QB Gunner Stockton earns SEC Offensive Player of the Week after win over Ole Miss

Gunner Stockton had, by far, his best home performance of the 2025 season on Saturday as Georgia took down Ole Miss by a score of 43-35. That showing has earned him recognition as the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Stockton completed 26 of 31 passes for 289 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. He also ran the football 10 times for 59 yards and added another score on the ground. Through seven games this season, Stockton has accounted for a total of 17 touchdowns while losing one fumble and tossing one interception.
The Bulldogs needed every single one of Stockton’s big plays on Saturday. Ole Miss scored touchdowns on each of its first five possessions in the game. The fourth-year junior was instrumental in Georgia being able to keep pace. He was at his best in the second half, completing all 12 of his pass attempts for 135 yards and three of those four touchdowns through the air.
The Georgia defense finally found its footing in the fourth quarter while Stockton and company kept rolling. The Bulldogs outscored the Rebels 17-0 in the final 15 minutes.

In the week leading up to the Ole Miss game, it wasn’t a certainty that Stockton would even play. Kirby Smart told the Georgia beat after the game that his quarterback was ailing. He missed some time on Monday and Tuesday with an oblique injury that was likely sustained in a highly physical contest at Auburn a week before. Georgia won that game 20-10.
Smart also told reporters that Stockton is “wired” to play his best ball in clutch moments due to his toughness. It’s something that his Georgia teammates see and respect.
“The offensive line, I mean, they see it,” Smart said of Stockton’s traits. “They see how that kid plays. They want to play for him. They want to compete for him. The backs, too. The receivers, they love Gunner. I mean, Gunner’s the most lovable guy because he never crosses anybody. He’s just Mr. Positive. ‘Yes, sir, coach. Yes, sir, coach.’ Can’t get him to say anything.”
