Georgia’s convincing 45-7 win over Marshall comes with spoils. The weekly update to the Associated Press Poll and Coaches Poll is out.

Georgia has risen in both. The Bulldogs have moved from fifth to fourth in the AP Poll. Georgia moved from fourth up to third in the Coaches Poll.

Georgia’s win, coupled with losses from four of the top 10 teams in both polls, helped Georgia make a slight jump even higher in the top five after week one. There is a new number one. Texas, the preseason number one team, fell to Ohio State, which has moved up to number one as a result.

The Bulldogs rolled Marshall to open the season. Marshall came into the game with a new head coach, a new roster and a lot of uncertainty. Georgia rolled up 488 yards of total offense, and the defense held Marshall to only 207 yards of total offense.

New full-time starting quarterback Gunner Stockton accounted for four touchdowns on Saturday. He threw for 190 yards and threw two touchdowns. The junior also ran for another 73 yards and two touchdowns, which led the team. Stockton drew praise from head coach Kirby Smart following the game.

“I’m proud of him, he’s a great leader and great competitor,” Smart told reporters after the game. “He does it the right way. He got us out of some negative plays that could have been sacks, and he escaped. I think he took care of the ball, made good decisions and made good reads on his pulls.”

Georgia will be back in Athens, hosting Austin Peay on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Stadium.
