“He’s so tough,” Kirby Smart said after the game. “I mean, he takes shot after shot. You know, I thought he did a good job with the run game — I’m talking about his run game. He saved us on a couple of third downs. IN the red area he made a couple runs. That plus-one run game can be big for us if he can protect himself. I thought he grew up tonight. He grew up a lot. He stood it in there. The fourth-down throw that he made was really good.”
Woodring earned the honor by being perfect on all of his field goal opportunities and by stifling Tennessee’s kick return game as Georgia didn’t allow a single return. Woodring connected on three field goals, the longest of which was 48 yards. Woodring also had makes of 20 and 24 yards.
Georgia’s win at Tennessee gave it five straight in Knoxville and nine straight in the series, the longest ever win streak for either team. It started a string of eight consecutive SEC contests for the Bulldogs, who are on bye this week before taking on Alabama on September 27.
