What we're watching in Georgia's second and final preseason scrimmage

Georgia will step inside Sanford Stadium on Saturday for a couple of the biggest hours of the preseason. The Bulldogs will scrimmage for the second and final time and this one is different than the other four they’ve had in 2025.
Unlike the three in the spring, including G-Day, and the one held last Saturday, this scrimmage will solidify some things in terms of depth charts and pecking orders. Once this one is over, Georgia will have a very good idea about the players it wants to depend upon in game one. With that said, we’ve got three things that we’re watching.
Bounce back from the Georgia offense…
Gunner Stockton and his side of the football got off to a roaring start this spring. The offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage for the first several practices, the run game was effective, and the pass game was generating explosive plays. Our intel indicates that the pass game has continued to do quite well but the Georgia defensive line has stepped it up.
That started in the first scrimmage when the Bulldogs weren’t able to run the ball effectively outside of maybe a handful of plays. Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo have made it abundantly clear that they are placing a large emphasis on returning this rushing attack to the Georgia standard. Saturday would be a good time to swing the pendulum back in the offense’s direction.
Which freshmen can keep it going?
I wrote yesterday about how it seems that this season could be shaped by true freshmen. Nothing has changed in the 24-plus hours since releasing that story, but this scrimmage will go a long way toward determining who plays and how much against Marshall and Austin Peay. Georgia has the luxury of playing two opponents it should easily handle in the first two weeks.
A lot of freshmen have a chance to benefit from that additional playing time, and we’re not just talking about mop-up duty. Will Talyn Taylor and Bo Walker perform well enough in the second scrimmage to get into the meat of the rotation? Where does Juan Gaston fit in? He still has a chance to start his first game at Georgia.

Elijah Griffin and Rasean Jenkins have opportunities to cement themselves in the two-deep depth chart, maybe to the point that they could squeeze out over a dozen snaps each in the first two games. That won’t happen if they don’t show up in Georgia’s second scrimmage.
Georgia still has some unsettled position battles…
We’ve already mentioned Gaston and the right guard spot where he’s competing with Daniel Calhoun and Michael Uini. There’s a ton of buzz about Gaston but those two second-year players aren’t going down without a fight. This might be a battle that lasts well into the season as Georgia feels good about all three players.
The safety position opposite of KJ Bolden is also up for grabs. DawgsHQ has recently learned that JaCorey Thomas has been battling a nagging injury, allowing Adrian Maddox and Zion Branch to see an increased number of reps. We don’t yet know if Thomas will be healthy enough to be full go in the second scrimmage but Georgia is looking for its guy at that spot.
The cornerback competition between Daniel Harris and Ellis Robinson is also on our radar. Georgia knows the types of talents it has on its hands with those two. We suspect that both will be factors throughout the season. There are also unsettled rotational spots all over each side of the ball.
