2026 3-star defensive lineman Cameron McHaney commits to Indiana

Indiana football’s 2026 recruiting class continued to take shape on Tuesday with the addition of three-star defensive lineman Cameron McHaney, a highly sought-after prospect out of IMG Academy in Florida.
McHaney, who originally hails from Greenwood, Indiana and stands at an imposing 6-foot-1 and 315 pounds, announced his decision via Instagram on Tuesday afternoon.
Ranked as the No. 408 overall player in the 2026 class and the No. 39 defensive lineman nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, McHaney figures to bring a powerful presence to the interior of Indiana’s defensive line.
He made his pledge to Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers the likes of Purdue, Vanderbilt, Illinois and Louisville.
McHaney’s decision to commit to Indiana adds another key piece to a growing and competitive recruiting class. The Hoosiers’ 2026 class now ranks No. 27 in the country and No. 10 in the Big Ten, according to On3, with McHaney becoming the latest in a strong group of defensive line commits.
He joins fellow defensive linemen Gabe Hill, Kevontay Hugan, Blake Smythe and Rodney White, bolstering a position group that includes both highly regarded interior and edge players.
A two-time state champion in high school, McHaney tallied 39 total tackles during his junior season at IMG Academy. His senior year is expected to further highlight his skills on the field, with many eyes on his development ahead of college.

“I believe Coach [Cignetti] and Coach (Pat) Kuntz will put me in to the right position to make plays and to get me to the next level,” McHaney told Rivals’ John Garcia.
McHaney, who visited several of his finalists over the past couple of months, made trips to Vanderbilt (May 30), Purdue (June 13), and Indiana (June 20). Indiana’s defensive tackles coach Pat Kuntz played a key role in McHaney’s recruitment, helping the Hoosiers secure the commitment of three-star lineman.
“I really didn’t know until I went on my visit and when I got there I just had a feeling that it was home,” McHaney said. “I believe it was a big goal to play in the Big Ten and it’s even better to represent my state… The only other thing I have to say to the fans is to enjoy the show.”
As Indiana continues to round out its 2026 class, McHaney’s commitment is likely to be one of the final pieces to the puzzle for the Hoosiers.
