Indiana basketball continued its early push into the class of 2027 on Saturday night, extending a scholarship offer to highly regarded Florida guard Martay Barnes.

Barnes, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound combo guard from The Academy of Central Florida, announced the offer on social media. The Hoosiers are the latest in a growing list of high-major programs to target the rising prospect since the June 15 contact period opened for 2027 recruits.

Rated as the No. 28 overall player in the 2027 class and the No. 1 combo guard nationally by the On3 Industry Ranking, Barnes is widely viewed as one of the top young backcourt talents in the country. He plays his grassroots basketball on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit with Austin Rivers SE Elite.

Indiana is the latest school to join a competitive recruitment that already includes offers from South Carolina, Ole Miss, Kansas, Cincinnati, South Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State and UCF. Barnes has also received early interest from Kentucky, Baylor, Miami (FL) and Georgia, among others.

“Honestly, it’s been crazy, man,” Barnes told KSR+ earlier this month. “Coaches are texting and calling at any time. You have to be by your phone at every moment just to be ready for a call. It’s been great.”

Barnes becomes the second player in the 2027 class to receive an Indiana offer in as many days, following Friday night’s offer to top 100 guard J’Lon Lyons.

As his recruitment begins to gain momentum, Barnes already has an idea of what he wants most in a future program.

“Honestly, just a place that feels like home,” Barnes said. “I don’t want to just go there for the money, but I want to go there to be part of a great team, have a great year, and play for a great coaching staff.”

On the court, Barnes has built a reputation as a polished and versatile guard who can impact the game in multiple ways.

“I can shoot the ball, pass, create offense for my teammates, and get anybody a shot on the team,” he said. “Defense is a secret, but a killer.”

With a deep bag of offensive skills and a rapidly expanding offer sheet, Barnes is shaping up to be one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2027 class.
