Availability Report: All-American cornerback 'questionable', freshman safety sidelined for road clash at Iowa

Indiana football All-American cornerback D’Angelo Ponds is listed as “questionable” for Indiana’s Week 5 road contest against Iowa with an undisclosed injury, according to the Big Ten Availability report.
Sources tell TheHoosier.com that Ponds will be a game time decision after sustaining an injury late in the week.
Back in August, during fall camp for the Hoosiers, Ponds “tweaked his ankle,” according to head coach Curt Cignetti, and was forced out of a preseason scrimmage. However, he returned to fall practice in short order.
He’s totaled 11 tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception and a pass breakup so far this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Ponds has allowed nine receptions on 15 targets and has received the second-highest grade of any member of Indiana’s secondary through the first four weeks of the year.
Ponds was named a second-team All-American by six different outlets a year ago and is off to another strong start in 2025.
Indiana will look to the combination of Northern Illinois transfer Amariyun Knighten and Pitt transfer Ryland Gandy to step up if Ponds is in fact unable to go.

Also sidelined for the Hoosiers’ clash with the Hawkeyes is freshman safety Byron Baldwin Jr. — who is set to miss his fifth consecutive game to begin the 2025 season.
About a month ago, Cignetti labeled Baldwin as “day-to-day.” Earlier this week, Cignetti was asked about Baldwin’s timetable to return from the injury that has kept him on the sideline to begin the year.
“I’ll know more today,” Cignetti said Monday afternoon.
Cignetti declined to add any further detail as to what is keeping one of the Hoosiers’ highest-ranked recruits in program history on the sideline.
Also listed on Indiana’s availability report ahead of Saturday’s road contest was safety Bryson Bonds and running back Lee Beebe. Bonds, who suffered a knee injury in the Week 1 win over the Monarchs, and Beebe, who suffered a “non-contact knee injury a week ago against Indiana State, will both miss the rest of the season due to their respective injures.
There were no other Hoosiers listed on this week’s availability report.
