Indiana University's Drew Evans (62) stretches during fall practice at the Mellencamp Pavilion at Indiana University on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024.

Indiana football starting left guard Drew Evans and kickoff specialist Brendan Franke will miss Indiana’s Week 10 clash with Maryland, per the Big Ten’s availability report.

All-American linebacker Aiden Fisher, who sat out the final three quarters of Indiana’s win last weekend over UCLA, also carries an injury designation and is listed as questionable.

Evans’ injury designation comes as a surprise for the Hoosiers’ starting left guard. Evans has played 534 snaps this season, which is tied for first on the offense, and has graded out as Indiana’s second-best run-blocker, according to Pro Football Focus.

A season ago, Evans had his 2024 season cut short due to an achilles injury during practice in the lead up to Indiana’s Week 11 clash with Michigan. It’s unclear what is keeping Evans out of this weekend’s showdown with the Terrapins.

With Evans out, the most likely option to fill his void at left guard is Ohio State transfer Zen Michalski, who has taken 24 snaps at left guard this season. Redshirt freshman Adedamola Ajani will likely operate as the backup left guard behind Michalski on Saturday.

Franke, who is also listed out, was called “questionable” by head coach Curt Cignetti on Monday. However, the injury he suffered on the opening kickoff of last week’s win over UCLA, will keep him out of this weekend’s road trip to Maryland.

Also on Monday, Cignetti called Fisher “probable” for Saturdays’ road clash with the Terrapins. Fisher missed the final three quarters of Indiana’s win last weekend over UCLA — it was described as “precautionary” at the time.

Although being listed as “questionable” on the availability report ahead of the game, Fisher is expected to be active for the Hoosiers against the Terrapins.

Also listed on Indiana’s availability report ahead of Saturday’s road contest was safety Bryson Bonds, running back Lee Beebe and defensive end Kellan Wyatt. Bonds, who suffered a knee injury in the Week 1 win over the Monarchs, Beebe, who suffered a “non-contact knee injury” earlier in the season against Indiana State, and Wyatt who exited Indiana’s win over Michigan State with an injury, will all miss the rest of the season due to their respective injures.

There were no other Hoosiers listed on this week’s availability report.
