Fall practice is underway for Indiana basketball and there are a few notable injuries that the team is dealing with.

Wings Nick Dorn (foot) and Jasai Miles (shoulder), and guard Jason Drake (toe) are all out with injuries. Both Nick Dorn and Jason Drake missed Indiana’s exhibition trip to Puerto Rico in August and have yet to practice. Miles, who was with Indiana in Puerto Rico, suffered an injury recently and has missed time. Both Drake and Miles participated in summer workouts.

“They should both be back — Jasai sooner than later and Deuce still a little while yet,” Indiana head coach Darian DeVries said on the Field of 68 Podcast. “He’s got probably another month or so before getting back into things.”

Drake averaged 11.1 points, 3.1 assists and shot 39.6 percent from three for Drexel last season. He had previous stops at Cleveland State and Butler Community College as well. He’s expected to play a reserve role at the point guard position for Indiana.

As for Jasai Miles, the North Florida transfer averaged 3.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist a game in three games for IU in Puerto Rico. He shot just 23 percent from the floor and 25 percent from three. Last season he averaged 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while starting all 32 games for North Florida. He shot 33.5 percent from three, on 7.3 attempts a game.Miles scored in double-figures 29 times and six 20+ point games. He had 18 points and 11 rebounds against Georgia Tech, 14 points and eight rebounds against Nebraska and 13 points against Florida.

Dorn has been out the longest for Indiana dealing with a foot injury. He suffered a Jones Fracture last year at Elon that cause him to miss the end of the season. This offseason, another surgery was needed on his foot.

“He’s getting closer and closer,” DeVries said. “We’re continuing to ramp him up a little. It’ll still be a little while before we get him into live 5-on-5 situations.”

Dorn averaged 15.2 points per game while shooting 35.1 percent on 3.0 made 3s a game last season at Elon. He scored 20+ points six times and made at least two 3s in 21 of 25 games he appeared in last season.

Indiana begins play on November 5 against Alabama A&M but have two exhibitions in October against Marian and Baylor.
