Florida transfer and new Indiana commit Sam Alexis sets official visit

Indiana basketball will be hosting newly committed transfer forward Sam Alexis for a visit next week.
Alexis — who committed to Indiana without visiting — is scheduled to be on campus next Wednesday and Thursday, sources told TheHoosier.com.
Sam Alexis committed to Indiana after one season at Florida and two years at Chattanooga.
While Alexis’ numbers weren’t eye-popping from a statistical standpoint during his lone season at Florida, just 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds a game — he did that in just 11.9 minutes a game.
His per-40 minute breakdown was: 15.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks a game.
Before he transferred to Florida, he played two seasons at Chattanooga and was one of the more dominant rebounders and shot blocker at the mid-major level. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks a game. His block rate was at 9.1 percent and his offensive rebound rate was 25.7 percent.

(On3+): What is Indiana getting in transfer big Sam Alexis?: ‘He prides himself on his effort’
For reference, Trayce Jackson-Davis has been one the top offensive rebounder in recent Indiana basketball history — his highest offensive rebound rate was 11.8 as a freshman. He was at 10.1 as a senior. Kel’el Ware was less than 8 percent for both of his college seasons and Oumar Ballo was at 12.2 percent last year for Indiana.
“Alexis told me he used to watch videos of Dennis Rodman before games to get himself ready for crashing the glass,” GatorsOnline.com senior writer Zach Abolverdi told TheHoosier. “In two of his games with the most minutes played, he recorded back-to-back performances with 12 rebounds against North Florida and Stetson. Alexis also scored a season-high 14 points vs. UNF for a double-double. That was one of four times he scored in double figures. He also had some success beyond the arc, hitting a 3-pointer in consecutive games at No. 1 Auburn and Vanderbilt.”
Alexis has one year of eligibility remaining.
