Indiana football continued its recent surge on the recruiting trail, adding to its 2026 class with the addition of Kevontay Hugan, a four-star edge rusher out of Booker High School in Florida.

Hugan, rated a top-400 player in the class of 2026 according to the On3 Industry Ranking, stands 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds. He’s ranked as the No. 41 overall edge rusher in the country in his class.

Hugan’s pledge to Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers comes just hours after he announced his decommitment from Louisville, where he had been committed since March 22. His commitment also follows a weekend visit to Indiana.

“The visit went great,” Hugan told TheHoosier.com.

Also on Wednesday, before to his announcement of his commitment to Indiana, the highly regarded edge rusher was named the MVP of Florida State’s offensive and defensive line camp.

Prior to Hugan’s commitment back in March, he held offers from north of 25 programs, a majority of those programs being power conference schools. Some of the top contenders prior to his original commitment to Louisville included USF, Florida Atlantic and Miami (FL).

Indiana officially joined the competition for Hugan on January 30th, when the Hoosiers officially offered Hugan a scholarship. Indiana defensive ends coach Buddha Williams was the primary recruiter for Hugan prior to his commitment to Louisville, while Pat Kuntz, the Hoosiers’ defensive tackles coach, was the secondary recruiter.

Last fall, during his junior campaign at Booker High School, Hugan compiled 118 total tackles, 18 sacks and 36.0 tackles for loss in 13 contests. He also runs an unofficial 11.22 100m dash.

With Hugan’s commitment, Indiana’s 2026 class now stands at 14 members. It’s a 2026 class ranked No. 31 in the country and No. 11 in the Big Ten. Hugan joins fellow four-star — and the Hoosiers’ current top-rated recruit in the 2026 class — Gabe Hill, as well as three-stars Blake Smythe and Rodney White along the defensive front in the Hoosiers’ 2026 class.

Hugan’s commitment also continues a recent surge of success for Indiana on the recruiting trail, following a weekend packed with visits. Tight end PJ MacFarlane, wide receiver Kortez Rupert, linebacker Ja’Dyn Williams, and now Hugan have all pledged to the Hoosiers since Sunday.

All told, Indiana’s 2026 class currently boasts four four-star recruits following the Wednesday addition of Hugan. That’s the most four-star prospects in any single recruiting class for the Hoosiers since 2022.
