Indiana extends offer to 2027 guard J'Lon Lyons

Indiana basketball has extended a scholarship offer to one of the more intriguing young prospects in the class of 2027 in three-star guard J’Lon Lyons.
Lyons, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound combo guard from Clinton Grace Christian School in Maryland, announced the offer late Friday night on social media.
Rated as the No. 100 overall prospect in the 2027 class by the On3 Industry Ranking, Lyons becomes one of the first players in his class to receive an offer from theHoosiers. His offer comes just hours after Indiana secured its first commitment in the 2026 class from Prince-Alexander Moody, signaling a busy start to the summer on the recruiting trail.

Lyons is currently playing with New World on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, where he’s continued to build on the potential that caught Indiana’s attention. He’s currently averaging 13 points, 3.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game on the 3SSB Circuit.
His game first drew national recognition last October at the CBG Fall Juco/Prep Showcase, where On3’s Jamie Shaw took note of his ability to create off the dribble and score from multiple levels.
“He showcased a sharp dribble, able to create opportunities for himself and his team,” Shaw wrote. “While he looked to score more than distribute on Sunday, he got clean looks and had nice touch from multiple levels on the floor. Being only in the class of 2027, there is a very nice foundation to continue building with.”
In addition to Indiana, Lyons holds offers from a wide range of high-major programs, including Georgetown, Florida State, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Providence, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Indiana assistant coach Kenny Johnson has strong recruiting ties to the DMV area, and his familiarity with the region has played a role in Indiana entering the mix early for Lyons.
Lyons describes his game as a blend of creativity and athleticism.
“I would describe my game as a little similar to Paul George,” Lyons told On3. “I’m smooth and crafty, athletic, flashy, and just an overall dog. I definitely try to take parts of KD [Kevin Durant], Paul George, and Bones’ [Hyland] game. They all have smooth games and a very deep bag.”

When it comes to choosing a college program, Lyons emphasized the importance of fit and culture.
“I’m going to be looking for a player-led program. I love coaches who let their players make mistakes and learn. I want to go to a program that is one big family, to be honest. Whatever program makes me feel at home, that’s what me and my family are going with,” Lyons said. “I like a freelance system. Me personally, I love to work off of high ball screens so I can get downhill and create for others.”
With his offer from Indiana, Lyons becomes a name to watch early in the 2027 cycle as the Hoosiers continue to build for the future.
