Indiana offers 2026 forward Trey Thompson following standout weekend on Adidas 3SSB Circuit

Indiana basketball has extended a scholarship offer to rising 2026 forward Trey Thompson, the 6-foot-8 standout from Greeneville High School in Tennessee, following a strong showing over the weekend on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit in Iowa.
Thompson, who plays AAU ball with Tennessee Impact, announced the offer Monday morning via social media. The Hoosiers became the first program to pull the trigger following the first live evaluation period of the spring, a strong early signal of their interest in the three-star recruit.
Indiana’s offer came after a conversation with assistant coach Kenny Johnson. Thompson caught the coaching staff’s attention with his combination of size, shooting touch, and versatility on both ends of the floor. The offer marks the first public move from Indiana’s staff following the first May evaluation weekend, where a number of high-major programs tracked Thompson’s play.
Ranked No. 136 nationally in the 2026 class and the No. 2 prospect in Tennessee, Thompson has seen his recruitment steadily rise. He’s already drawn attention from programs like Kentucky, Kansas, Virginia, Purdue, Louisville, Tennessee and Michigan. He’s taken visits to schools including Purdue, Tennessee, Indiana State, Liberty, Butler, and Virginia Tech.
Part of Indiana’s interest may stem from a familiar connection — assistant coach Rod Clark, who previously recruited Thompson while on staff at Tennessee.
“Loyalty is a big thing for me,” Thompson told KSR+ in April. “I’m looking for that kind of atmosphere and someone who wants me as badly as I want them. That’s what I’m going to base it on.”
Though Thompson had originally planned to make a decision in July or August, he told KSR+ that his timeline may be accelerating.

“I think I’m going to speed it up a little bit and commit in May or June,” he said. “I’m not entirely sure yet. I really don’t know.”
On the court, Thompson has been a dominant force at Greeneville High School, averaging 24.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and shooting 45% from beyond the arc this past season. He’s a career 45% 3-point shooter and has been a three-year contributor for the Greene Devils.
Through eight games on the 3SSB Circuit this spring, Thompson is averaging 18.0 points while shooting 58.2% from the field and 42.9% from deep on over six attempts per game.
Thompson identifies rebounding and passing as core strengths, but his elite perimeter shooting continues to draw the most attention. He says he’s focused on developing his defensive game and believes there’s room to grow in every aspect.
With Indiana now officially in the mix, Thompson’s recruitment is heating up — and it could be coming to a close sooner rather than later.
