Indiana running back Lee Beebe will miss the remainder of the season, head coach Curt Cignetti announced on Monday afternoon.

Beebe was injured in Friday night’s week three win against Indiana State after suffering a knee injury.

“(Lee) Beebe sustained a non-contact knee injury and will be lost for the season,” Cignetti said.

Lee Beebe transferred to Indiana after three seasons at UAB where he totaled 1,277 yards on the ground and 11 touchdowns.

In three games this year with the Hoosiers he had 209 yards on the ground with one touchdown and averaged 7.7 yards per carry. He was second on the team in rushing yards and first in average.

He had five carries for 46 yards on Friday before suffering the injury.

Indiana’s rushing attack ranks third in the country and first in the Big Ten averaging 307.7 yards per game.

Kaelon Black leads Indiana with 217 yards on 34 carries while Roman Hemby, who transferred from Maryland, leads Indiana with 36 carries and has 200 yards on the ground.

Cignetti singled out redshirt freshman running back Khobie Martin as someone who needs to step up. He ran for 109 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns in Indiana’s win over Indiana State.

“He’s going to need to (step up),” Cignetti said. “I thought he ran well Saturday night. He’s got talent and he’ll get more reps and we’re going to need him.”

No. 19 Indiana faces off against No. 9 Illinois in Bloomington this weekend, the first Big Ten game of the season.
