Indiana wing Tucker DeVries has healthy offseason for 'first time in three years'

Tucker DeVries enters his final season of eligibility this season, and his first at Indiana, looking to stay healthy. After suffering three shoulder injuries the last few years, this summer comes with a different outlook, however.
DeVries played in just eight games last year at West Virginia but, when on the floor, was extremely productive. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and shot 47.3 percent from three, making 3.3 3s a game.
The previous three seasons at Drake he had a combined average of 18.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot 35.6 percent from three with 2.4 made 3s a game.
Now, he enters the season healthy — the first time in quite a while.
“I think the biggest thing for him, this is probably the first time in three years he’s actually been healthy,” Indiana head coach Darian DeVries told The Field of 68. “It’s been a long road for him, so I know he’s excited to hopefully stay that way and be able to complete a whole season and be able to perform with a healthy shoulder.”
Tucker DeVries followed his dad to Indiana after one season at West Virginia and is part of a roster that returns zero scholarship players from a season go.
Tucker DeVries entered last season as a projected NBA draft pick but quickly fell off boards following his injury. He’s looking to regain that form in Bloomington.
“The shoulder feels great. This is the first year in three years I’ve had a full offseason,” Tucker DeVries said. “So going into the fall being in shape already is very important and I think that allows you to get ready for a season very well … I feel great and excited for this last go around.”

DeVries was cleared for full contact shortly into summer workouts and took part in Indiana’s exhibition tour in Puerto Rico.
“For those that have been athletes and have been through multiple surgeries, you know how frustrating that can be and time consuming it is to try to do the rehab and start all over again,” Darian DeVries said. “So we’re excited about where he’s at right now, and I know he’s excited to get back out there and play again.”
Indiana is looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2022-23 season. The Hoosiers have made the NCAA Tournament just twice since 2016 — and made the second weekend just once since 2013.
So the internal goals are high for Indiana — but very specific. Get back to the tournament, where anything can happen.
“NCAA Tournament for sure,” Tucker DeVries said. “That should be the goal every year when you step on the floor the first day of practice. From there, anything can happen. Everyone wants to win the national championship but ultimately there’s a lot of things involved when trying to do that. As long as we put our best foot forward, work extremely hard and make the NCAA tournament … there’s a lot that can happen.”
